The unam faculty of medicine, located at its main campus in ciudad universidad, is characterized by modern and functional architecture designed by architects roberto álvarez espinosa, pedro ramírez vázquez, ramón torres, and héctor velazquez. the building was inaugurated in 1952 and featured a mural by francisco eppens helguera entitled "life; death; mestizaje and the four elements." the façade, which features a combination of tezontle and cantera stone, reflects the style of the colonial era.
