The most common civil engineering use of gabions is to stabilize shorelines; the banks of streams or slopes against erosion, which is the wear of a surface produced by friction or rubbing; which include temporary retaining walls; the filtration of the sediments by the current of water that overflows its deposit or natural or artificial channel; for small dams; temporary or permanent and for river formation or channel linings that can be used to direct the force of a flood water current around a vulnerable structure.
